Bio 3.3
Understanding the application of DNA technolgy
By: Kacey Caudill
As you know, DNA can be used in numerous cases in testing and such. But it is also extremely helpful in the comparison and identification of organisms, this doesn't seem like such a big deal but this can help with solving crimes, and with forensic testing. DNA plays a major role in Gel electrophoresis, this is an experimental procedure that uses electrical currents to separate proteins or nucleic acids based on their sizes, charges or structures. The procedure is in laboratory research in cases concerned with detecting DNA or analyzing microscopic particles, such as genetics, biochemistry, etc.
Certain transgenic organisms, such as plants, animals, and bacteria can help out with many different things in our world. They help out with agriculture, industry, and pharmaceutical purposes.
Ethics seems to always be an issue in biology, For example. Some people either agree or disagree with topics such as the Human Genome Project, Cloning, designer babies, etc. The Human Genome project seems to be one of the more controversial topics. The Human Genome project is an international project with a goal of determining the sequence of chemical bases and their pairs which make up our DNA, and of identifying and mapping the human genes of the human genome from both a physical and functional perspective.
BACTERIAL TRANSFORMATION1.) Foreign DNA is joined as a plasmid
2.) Recombinant DNA is mixed with Bacteria cells
3.) Some bacterial cells take In the Recombinant DNA
4.) Culture is treated with antibiotics
5.) antibiotic-resistant cells survive
