Explain the theory of evolution by Natural selection as
a mechanism for how species change over time.
By: Kacey Caudill
Evolution- is the gradual process by which biological traits become either more or less common.
Theory of evolution- a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modifications in successive generations
Natural selection- The process in nature by which, according to Darwin's theory of evolution, only the organisms best adapted to their environment will survive and transmit their genetic characteristics in increasing numbers to succeeding generations while those less adapted tend to be eliminated.

all species of life have descended over
time from common ancestors.

Theres much evidence proving for dawins theory to be correct. The fact that fossils show that ancient species share similarities with species now on Earth, gives evidence to suggest that we have come from these species or are related to them in some way (i.e. evolution).
Different species change over time for various reasons. because all individuals are born with slightly different traits, which makes some of these individuals slightly better, and some slightly worse, at surviving and reproducing. Those that are slightly better, tend on average to leave more offspring (and pass those very traits onto those offspring). Those that are slightly worse, tend on average to leave fewer offspring. So over time, the better traits spread and the worse traits tend to disappear. So over time the species changes.
