- Iodine
- Biuret
- Benedicts solution
- Butter, Meat, apples, chips, cheese, and crackers
What to do?
1. To test for fats you are to spread on the brown paper. Wait for about 30 minutes so food can evaporate. Once evaporated check brown paper for grease spots. The larger the grease spot the more fats in the food
2. To test for proteins place food on spot plate. Next add Biuret to each of the foods. If color is changed to a blue/purple proteins are present.
3. To test for starch place some of food on spot plate. Add 1 to 2 drops of Iodine solution. If starch is present the color will go from brown to dark blue or black.
4. To test for sugar take the other half of the food (that wasn't used in step 3) and place into test tubes with a few drops of Benedicts solution. If color is immediately changed from blue to green to orange, simple sugars are present.
