THE OTHER HALF OF ME

I chose The Other Half Of Me as my book. The main charater of the book, Jenny Fitzgerald, comes from an athletic family. Her parents are interested in yard work and running, her sisters Sierra and Sage are dancers, and Russ is ready to become a football player like Jenny's two year long crush, Tate. The different one in the family, Jenny's more artistic and far from being
athletic. But that's not the only thing separating her from her family--her
biological father is actually Donor number 142, so her siblings are only her half
siblings. Jenny feels like her family will never understand her that way and she
longs to have a relationship like the twins Sierra and Sage do. Jenny finally
gets that chance when Tate shows her something amazing: an online organization
called Donor Sibling Registry, in which she can sign up and see if Donor #142
has donated other sperm and whether she has other half siblings. Much to her
surprise and delightment, she finds Alexa, her half sister. Alexa is impulsive
and different, but Jenny feels like she can say and share anything with Alexa.
When the latter makes a visit to Jenny's home, things take a definitive turn and
Jenny's not sure how to deal. When Jenny meets her half-sister, Alexa, she hopes that the pieces of herself she's felt is missing will be found, that she'll finally have a sibling relationship like her younger twin sisters instead of feeling so alone. Instead, when Alexa shows up for a surprise visit, Jenny has to deal with jealousy from her family and her own jealousy of Alexa. Her high hopes don't pan out as she realizes just how different she and Alexa truly are and comes to understand family isn't just about blood but something more intangible. Alexa swoops in and takes Jenny's life by the reins - something that Jenny doesn't know how to deal with or appreciate - and the second half of the story goes in a straight line down the exact path the reader expects it to. Unfortunately, the tension simply evaporates, the only remaining
source Jenny's unhappiness over the disappointment she's brought upon herself.
Relationship
Overall this book is a great one and I reccomend it to ANYONE who loves a heart jerker! This book relates to biology on different aspects. First and formost it relates to Bio 3.1," Explain how traits are determined by the structure and function of DNA" I say this becuase her interests and personality were totally different than the "half" family she was living with. This showed how she wasnt fully there child becuase she didnt share the same "make-up" as the rest of her family. But whenever she came across her other sister her traits matched up more. I just feel like everyone is different, but some do share similar traits. This book really emphizied on this topic.
